About Us

The Atlantic Region is the youngest of the five regional Canadian Music Centre offices. Opened in 1989, it is located on the campus of Mount Allison University (www.mta.ca) in Sackville, New Brunswick (www.sackville.com). As well as operating a lending library of Canadian scores, our staff addresses special requests concerning Canadian music, and serves the needs of the Associate Composers in the region through a variety of projects. We work closely with other arts organizations in the Atlantic Region to promote Canadian music and Canadian composers. At the present time, there are 36 associate composers in the region. Although small in population, the region is spread out geographically and has two major art-music centres - Halifax NS and St. John's NL - as well as many smaller centres with vibrant arts communities. Our mission is to connect all these places and groups in the creation, performance, and appreciation of Canadian music.

Funding Received Creates “Hub”
CMC Atlantic has recently received funding for four summer positions throughout our region. These positions will go to four students, who have been tasked with the Creative Hub Project. Stationed at Mount Allison University, Dalhousie University, the University of PEI, and the Memorial University of Newfoundland, these students will track down, organize, and present to the public anything and everything to do with Canadian classical music being performed in the Atlantic Provinces.
