Sofia Kraevska

Born into a musical and artistic family in L’viv, Ukraine, Sofia Kraevska began her music studies at an early age. After Immigrating to Toronto, Canada, in 1989, she earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance at the University of Ottawa (2001). Sofia holds a Diplôme Supérieur in Piano Performance from the Schola Cantorum in Paris, France (2000), a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance (2003), and a Doctoral Degree from the University of Miami in Composition, with cognate in Conducting (2009). Her classical works have been premièred in Canada, Austria and the United States.

Recent première venues include Carnegie Hall, the Highlands-Cashiers Summer Music Festival in North Carolina and the University of Miami’s Gusman and Clarke Recital Halls. Her works have been performed by The Florida Youth Orchestra, The Ibis Camerata, Vega String Quartet, ONDA, and the University of Ottawa’s Calixa Lavallée Ensemble; readings include the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra and the University of Miami’s Frost Symphony Orchestra.

Among Sofia’s teachers are Lydia Golembo, Jean-Paul Sevilla, Jacques Bernier, Andrew Tunis and J.B. Floyd. She studied composition with Steven Gellman, John Van der Slice, Dennis Kam and Lansing McLoskey; choral conducting with Laurence Ewashko, and orchestral conducting with David Currie and Thomas Sleeper. Her classical recording debut, Noli Me Tangere, was released in 2006 on the Ibis Camerata’s debut album, Glisten (Albany Records).

Sofia has collaborated with husband Scott Routenberg on Jazztronicus (Miami, 2006), Lots of Pulp(Miami, 2003) and Benjamin Sire on ElektroBarok Concept (Paris, MidiLive, 2001).
