Ashot Ariyan

Composer Ashot Ariyan was born in 1973 in Yerevan, Armenia. After completing secondary school he studied piano for four years at R. Melikian Music College while at the same time improving his skill in composition.

In 1992 he attended the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory for 2 years of study in composition under the guidance of Prof. Armen Smbatyan, after which in 1995 he moved to Moscow to continue his education in music at the Moscow Tchaykovsky State Conservatory under the guidance of Prof. Karen Khachaturian. He graduated from the conservatory with distinction in 2001. A year later he became an assistant to Prof. Khachaturian in composition at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and then further taught as a lecturer in polyphony, harmony and orchestration.

Since 2001 he has been a member of the Composers’ Union of Russia.

Ashot Ariyan is an author of 30 compositions including 2 symphonies, a piano concerto, 2 symphonic frescos, and a number of chamber works.

Some of his compositions have been performed at concert halls in Russia, Armenia, Belgium, Germany, USA and the Canada as well as the “Moscow Autumn” music festival.

He lives in Canada since 2007.

Presently Ashot Ariyan is a doctoral candidate at the University of Montreal.
