William J Peltier

"William J. Peltier was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and presently reside in Waterloo, Ontario. He has studied music composition at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo with Mariano Etkin and at McGill University in Montreal with John Rea. However, William’s music is more informed by a highly personalized style than any formalized training. In fact, his music is composed using a self-invented technique called Object-Oriented Composition (OOc). Another important area of exploration for him has been exposing the ambiguities of preconceived assumptions about musical expression.

As a young composer, he participated in Amsterdam’s Gaudeamus International Music Week as a competition finalist, twice in CBC Radio’s National Young Composers’ Competition where he received a second price, and Les Evenement du Neuf’s Tribute to Young Composers. His music was also performed by Arraymusic, NUMUS, The New Art Quartet, and The Blue Rider Ensemble. Now, after a rather lengthy hiatus, William is re-emerging as composer. More recently, his music as been performed by the New York Miniaturist Ensemble, Victoria’s Aventa Ensemble, Toronto’s Continuum Ensemble, a collaboration with the Penderecki String Quartet and the NUMUS Ensemble and Austria’s Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien®, who selected William’s music for international performances at the BKA Theatre in Berlin, the Remusica Festival in Prishtina, and the Havana Contemporary Music Festival."
