Laura Pettigrew
 Biography

Laura Pettigrew received her masters of Music in Composition and her Bachlor of Music, majoring in composition from the University of Regina studying with Dr. Tom Schudel. As a composer, Laura is a member of the Canadian League of Composers an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Center and a member of SOCAN and IAWM. She has works published with ALRY and Kendor Publications in addition to self-published works.

As a flutist, Laura has continued her pedagogical studies by attending MasterClasses with world renowned flutists, Stephen Preston, William Bennett and Susan Hoeppner. She performs as a soloist and also in the Harp and Flute Duo “On Whispering Winds”, and a Flute and Guitar Duo with Sheldon Arvey. In 2000/02, Laura performed with the National Flute Choir and the ALRY Flute Choir at the National Flute Association Conventions. In addition in 2002, Laura was a teaching assistant at the International Masterclass “Wildacres Flute Retreat” in North Carolina.

Laura founded and conducts the student choir, “Sounds of Silver”, who recorded two CD’s in 2000. performed for the Lt. Governor, and Governor General in 2000 and had the honour of performing for Prince Charles April 26, 2001, at which time her Brass Fanfare, “Fanfare for the Royal Family” was premiered. As a clinician and adjudicator, Laura spends a portion of her time traveling and working. Laura was a board member for the Regina Musical Club for four years and in 2007 took on a board position with the Regina Music Festival, over and above her other volunteer positions with Carmichael Outreach, Regina Christian School and most recently fundraising for SSYO. Laura maintains a large studio of private students and is a sessional lecturer for the Music Dept. at the University of Regina (as needed). Laura currently resides in Regina and is the proud mother of two sons, Joshua (published poet) and Luke (musician – saxophone/marching baritone; paralegal).
