Sean Ferguson

Sean Ferguson began his academic musical education at the University of Alberta where he received his Bachelor of Music (Honours) in 1989. Subsequently, he completed his Master of Music in Composition in 1993 and his Doctor of Music in Composition in 2001 at McGill University in Montreal. His professional training also includes, among others, classes in Darmstadt in 1996 and participation in the Tapestry New Opera Composer-Librettist Laboratory in Toronto in 2002. Sean Ferguson is the recipient of several composition awards including the first prize in the chamber music category of the 1992 CBC Radio Young Composers Competition. In 1993, he represented Canada in the under 30 category of the UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers with his piece River Reflections. With over 20 commissioned pieces for a wide range of instrumentation from solo piano to large orchestra, numerous ensembles in Canada and Europe have performed his works. Since 2001, Ferguson has been lecturing at McGill University.
